right this minute

the days are gradually getting longer and interestingly enough so are my nights.  when it gets dark at 5 i just feel so lazy. but with the sun still hanging on after 6 i find that i'm staying up a little later and getting more done making this already short month seem even shorter than normal.

before spring arrives i thought i’d share a few of the things that made me happy and got me through this last wintery month.

when life gives you a cookie

sometimes all it takes is a buttery, melt-in-your-mouth chocolate chip cookie to turn an otherwise blah day (or week) into something more.  i definitely needed a cookie today! cookies are my ultimate weakness.  i could literally eat a dozen in one sitting (and probably have).

anyway, between the bitterly cold and looming changes at work i've been feeling a little out of sorts and quite a bit anxious this week- not like my typical, animated self.  not only that but, i've been making a concerted effort to eat clean these days and have been bombarded by girl scouts eager to make a quick buck off of my wavering resolve.  all reminders of why it just made sense to eat a cookie.  and wouldn't you know, we just happened to have some in the office.  what luck!?!  (ok, so i brought them in but you'll have that.)

sage advice: eat a cookie whenever your having 'a day'.  see what happens!

february fourteenth

ahhh….valentine’s day.  how sweet you are!  i look forward to the fourteenth day in february every year. actually, i try find something to look forward to every month of the year because to me that means i’m living a meaningful life.  valentine's day is one of my favorites because it’s a day that i get to spoil the one(s) that i love and that makes me happy.

this year to spoil my man we did something a little different.  we still went on a ‘date’ but it wasn’t your typical, romantic, dinner cliché – been there, done that.  instead we woke up early for breakfast.  yep, breakfast.  then, after filling ourselves full of pancakes, eggs, and mimosas we went home and napped for a good hour.  it was splendid!

note to self: when we both wear hats pictures together are challenging
that night we met up with my best friend and her husband and on sunday i made a 'fancy schmancy' dinner.  we opened our cards and sipped champagne then (i) watched the bachelor.  my valentine is the best!

lilly pulitzer & target : april 2015

on april 19th be prepared for palm beach vibes to invade target stores nationwide!!

i am so freakin’ excited!!  if you aren’t a fan of Lilly Pulitzer then this won’t appeal to you but if you are, then you get it.  i have coveted the citreous-inspired, pricey patterns for years.  their line is simply the perfect complement to the beach life and i cannot wait to actually own a piece (or five).  the timing couldn't be any more perfect since we’ll be florida bound in may.

want to know the best part about the collection?  it will feature far more than cute tops and chic dresses; it will include over 250 pieces - everything from cute clutches to beach towels.  mark your calendars and start saving now.  for more insights follow this link from the collaboration 'sneak peek'!

winter time is: home improvement time

when winter rolls around that’s when i feel most compelled to work on home improvement projects.  maybe it's the cold and the fact that i'm inside more but when i look around our home i have a tendency to come up with a project or two that will help us pass the time and make our house our own. there’s a certain look and feel that i’d love to achieve but, without a ton of renovation, time and money it simply isn’t going to happen right away. so instead we tackle smaller projects one at a time. with each finished project we get closer to my ideal aesthetic and i love our home all the more.  it’s a great feeling!

this time last year we (cody) constructed an amazing built-in bookshelf in our bedroom and we laid new flooring in our sunroom.  this year, in addition to purchasing new appliances (gulp!), we have tiled our entryway and fireplace, and refurbished a new-to-us table.  i am loving the progress that’s being made on our home and can’t wait to finish our work on the laundry room!!!  below are the before and afters and if you’re interested in a good tutorial on refinishing furniture here’s a link worth clicking.

snowy superbowl sunday

he's watching the superbowl and i'm watching the snow blow.  in the past i've socially watched the game but, i'm most interested in the good food, company and commercials.  this year it's just just us.  and that's ok.  that's why i'm blogging.  it has snowed nearly 10 inches here in the past 24 hours with a little more on the way tonight.

i'm positively smitten by all the new snow!  i love it.  it makes everything seem so fresh, clean and peaceful.  i could literally sit by the window all day and watch it fall.  in fact, i did for most of the day.  and when i wasn't at the window working away the mr. was driving me around to take pictures.  (you know you've got a keeper when...) there's just something about a perfectly white landscape.

by the way - the budweiser lost dog commercial nearly had me in tears.  go seahawks!
